CANKUZO

MUYAGA Parish

Barely 4 km from Cankuzo, to the south, is Muyaga, its spiritual and educational appendage. It is the oldest Christian establishment in Burundi, which dates from the missionary penetration undertaken in the east of the country by the Dutch father Johannes-Michael Van der Burgt, from 1896. Its durability was not won during its foundation and the fathers who created it nearly abandoned it on several occasions. However, it is still a very lively Church today, one of those with the largest number of consecrated persons in the country.
