The Ngendo and Kibimbi mountain ranges in Bururi surround a tourist site including thermal waters of Muyange and the Kibimbi waterfalls.
Its source remained unknown for a long time before being finally discovered in 1934 by the explorer Burckhart Waldecker in Burundi, in Gasumo, in Rutovu commune, in Bururi province. He walked from Egypt to Gasumo in Bururi and it was in 1938 that he built the pyramid as a symbol of the pyramids of Egypt.
The Bururi Forest Nature Reserve in Burundi was previously considered to be the link between heaven and earth. The ancient Burundians attached great importance to forest conservation, especially mountain forests. Several mountain forests were protected and used as a place of worship, while other forests served as a necropolis for Queen Mothers.
GASHINYIRA is the birthplace of the first king of BURUNDI ,NTARE RUSHATSI CAMBARANTAMA founder of the Ganwa dynasty around the 16th century. The site is located on the Bitezi hill in the Matana commune of Bururi province.
